Cholera The Forgotten Disease Essays - Medicine, Clinical Medicine

Cholera The Forgotten Disease Essays - Medicine, Clinical Medicine Cholera The Forgotten Disease Cholera the Forgotten Disease It appears to be each time we know about a significant flood or tremor in a creating nation, we hear by and by about cholera. Cholera has been uncommon in mechanical countries, for example, the USA, throughout the previous 100 years, nonetheless, what we don't understand is that cholera is endemic in numerous little nations which have restricted drinking water and sewage treatment offices. Brought about by a disease of bacterium Vibrio Cholerae in the digestive system, a cholera disease is frequently gentle or without manifestations, however now and then is extreme. Indications show up 2 to 3 days after introductory presentation. Roughly one of every 20 contaminated people show indications of water the runs, spewing, and leg squeezes; this quick lose of body liquids prompts lack of hydration and now and again stun. These liquids must be supplanted either intravenously or by drinking fluids, for example, organic product juice, soup, or liquids called oral rehydration salts, which supplant electrolytes. Anti-microbials might be restricted to abbreviate the length of looseness of the bowels and discharge of microbes in dung. Without treatment, passing may happen in hours. In spite of the fact that cholera can be life-threating, it can without much of a stretch be forestalled and rewarded. A antibody for cholera is accessible; be that as it may, it presents just concise, 2 to a half year, and fragmented resistance, just about half powerful. It isn't suggested. Since cholera is still regular in different pieces of the world, everybody, particularly voyagers, ought to know of how the sickness is transmitted and what should be possible to forestall it. The sickness isn't probably going to spread legitimately starting with one individual then onto the next; in this way, easygoing contact with a tainted individual isn't a hazard for getting sick. An individual may get cholera by drinking water or eating food polluted with the Vibrio cholerae bacterium. In a pestilence, the wellspring of the sullying is normally the excrement of an contaminated individual entering the fundamental water source. The cholera bacterium may likewise live in salty waterways and beach front waters. Shellfish from contaminated waters can cause disease. Unwashed new products of the soil flooded with spoiled water can likewise taint. Avoidance of cholera is simple. When in a potentially contaminated zone: cook the food appropriately, eat nourishments speedily after their arrangement including shellfish, foods grown from the ground vegetables, abstain from drinking untreated water, and wash your hands completely with cleanser regularly. Cholera won't have extraordinary effect on me as a careful technologist. It isn't basic in the United States, and since it isn't transmitted straightforwardly from individual to individual, there is no danger of the Operating room staff transmitting the illness from the tolerant. On the off chance that an evil patient is planned, elective medical procedure will be deferred, and for the situation of crisis medical procedure on somebody with cholera, their liquids will be observed carefully. All things being equal, cholera, despite the fact that not predominant, is a danger to world explorers. Training of the causes, treatment, and counteraction are an explorers first line of safeguard

How To Solve Marketing Problems By Thinking Like A Startup

Step by step instructions to Solve Marketing Problems By Thinking Like A Startup You could most likely name off a bajillion advertising issues in a short time on the off chance that I let you. The thing is,â you can tackle a ton of those issues by intuition somewhat more like a startup and significantly less like a corporate organization. Trust me on this. Its been eighteen months now since I became worker #5 at a then-one-year-old startup called . Prior to that, I was one of 2,000+ representatives in a corporate organization. Discussion about a difference in pace. What I used to do in sevenâ months in a corporate promoting group, I was presently doing in three days. Actually. The most effective method to Solve Big #Marketing Problems By Thinking Like A StartupLooking back has been super educational. Also, that interest got meâ thinking: How is it conceivable that a startup with way less assets can make successful substance more proficiently than a corporate organization with apparently unlimited assets? Answeringâ that question drove me to break down the absolute greatest advertising problemsâ behindâ prioritizing work, overseeing undertakings, and hitting cutoff times. So here are the greatest certainties corporate promoting groups could gain from an advertiser in a startup to: Engage each individual from your promoting group to turn into a hero. Make content preferable and quicker over ever previously. Fosterâ a troublesome culture that distributes reliably and liberated from office organization. It will get profound here. Exercises gained from eighteen months ofâ #startup marketing.Problem #1: You Need A Documented Marketing Strategy Before You Start What sucks right now: Without distributing any substance in any case, that archived technique of yours is only a major gigantic theory. That is a ton of effortâ you put into an inner archive that doesntâ directly contact your crowd. Furthermore, that implies theres positively no payout from it at this moment. :/ Theâ startup solution: Start with unmistakably characterized objective and a base suitable arrangement. Give your teamâ a reason and let them free. Heres something for you to bite on: Some peopleâ have a personal stake in selling you on all the reasons why you need a documentedâ strategy. That is on the grounds that that is the administration they sell you through substance showcasing. Showcasing plans are a niceâ way to make youâ feel like youve achieved something without really indicating your crowd theâ value. Theres no real way to actually knowâ if the technique in yourâ plan will be fruitful or not. Actually you have to distribute, investigate your prosperity, and gain from your missteps and triumphs to improve. In Poke The Box, Seth Godin advocates this ideaâ by composing: In the event that you don’t transport, you really haven’t began anything by any means. Sooner or later, your work needs to cross with the market. Sooner or later, you need criticism with regards to whether it worked. Something else, it’s just a diversion. In actuality, you can begin now by basically characterizing yourâ goal-the motivation behind what youd like to achieve with content promoting. At that point you can basically conceptualize the manners in which you could achieve that objective, organize your undertaking list, see how youll measure achievement, and begin making content. Our prime supporter, Garrett, continually helps all to remember us at that: The least complex methodology is regularly the best spot to begin. So this isnt about making content without methodology. Its that your methodology can be as basic asâ focusing on inbound traffic to begin since you cannot change over perusers who dont exist. You can useâ survey information or blog remarks to comprehend your crowd without composing formal personas. You can organize your activities utilizing an Evernote note and a couple of visual cues as opposed to putting resources into an expertly structured key report that basically cuts your projectâ roadmap into stone without squirm space to dissect what works and what doesnt. You canâ improve your technique as you investigate the outcomes from the substance you distribute. Utilize the lean startup procedure to fathom your #marketing problems. From there, take a gander at your substance achievement or disappointment, gain from the information, and repeat. This idea is an applied hypothesis from Eric Ries, who wrote The Lean Startup. In that book, Eric makes reference to that new businesses can move quicker with a basic, iterative procedure that enables your clients to take part in building your item or administration. It looks somewhat like this: At the point when you apply that idea to dealing with your showcasing, it looks somewhat like this: Concentrate on distributing content and repeating on what you know truly works. The best an ideal opportunity to begin is presently. Prescribed Reading: How To Track Your Marketing Objectives To Focus On Success Issue #2: Prevent Fires Instead Of Putting Them Out What sucks at the present time: You have an inclination that you have to take on each task you get requested to assist with. Its intense to disapprove of coincidental undertakings when youre seen as an assistance place rather than a key piece of your companys development. As such, you cantâ complete key tasks on the grounds that emergenciesâ consume your work week. The startup arrangement: Rock a coordinated scrum and run process that keeps your group from being removed from your key tasks on account of somebody elses absence of arranging. New companies are known for being problematic. One of the manners in which they ensure theyll transport on time is by followingâ agile forms that keep them 100% concentrated on ventures that willâ make a quantifiable distinction. This procedure is frequently run arranging joined with every day scrum gatherings. Also, you can apply this equivalent way to deal with your advertising: A scrum ace, probably you, allots the group the total rundown of activities theyll take on in a specific timeframe. That is normally the following fourteen days. The group cooperates to concur on what tasks will complete, when theyll be done, and how muchâ effort it will take. When the group focuses on the activities and cutoff times, they will dispatch on time regardless. At the point when other hot activities come up, just the scrum ace can stop or change extends in mid-run. That implies that nobody not even your CEO-can take time or take your group off the present run. That implies your group remains centered while you plan the new demands into up and coming sprints. That helpsâ everyone center onâ the right undertakings and gives you an opportunity to deliberately figure out which new tasks to take on before you hop intoâ executing. Theres a truism Iveâ seen around that goes something like this: Your absence of arranging doesnt mean a crisis for me. Plan your work. Work your arrangement. Evade the fire drills. Issue #3: But That Would Never Work Around Here And Projects Get Thrashed The Day Before Launch Heres a two-in-one for ya: What sucks at this moment: You simply read through the answer for issue #2 and you pondered internally, Yeah, right! On the off chance that I told our CEO that I wasnt going to finish her venture first thing, shed be pissed. So the genuine issue is that you haventâ gotten endorsement to deal with your group your way without exemptions. The startup arrangement: Thrash your tasks before you make them. At that point get your close down recorded as a hard copy on the off chance that you have to-that youll shipâ your route and on your cutoff time. Seth Godin has worked with tremendous corporate organizations and went over this problemâ a part in his initial proficient life. His answer? Characterize the day youll transport. Youll distribute on this day regardless of what occurs. Record each and every thought that might pipe into your venture. Get anybody included who needs to be. Seth says, This is their opportunity of a lifetime. Whip and dream. Seth says, People center around crises, not urgencies, and getting yourself (and them) toâ stop dealing with tomorrows cutoff time and contribute now isnt simple. Help your group choose what theyll make in the time period accessible. Enter the entirety of your thoughts into a database. At that point let everybody whip your task before you even start. Seth says, Make sure everybody comprehends that this isâ the absolute last possibility they need to improve the task. Make an outline of all the rest of the thoughts that will pipe into your task. Demonstrate the plan to the top dogs and ask, If I convey what you affirmed, on financial plan and on schedule, will you transport it?' Dont push ahead until you get your yes. When you get your indeed, fabricate your venture your direction and boat on schedule. This procedure, as Seth diagrams in Linch Pin, functions admirably for both spreading out how you need to deal with your group (with runs and the deft scrum process) and for overseeing single undertakings. Get endorsement regardless of whether you need to getâ something marked at that point assemble. In their book, Sprint, Jake Knapp, John Zeratsky, and Braden Kowitzâ explain that getting endorsement to make projectsâ that are on point from the beginning and end with a whip free procedure start withâ approval from a Decider. In this unique circumstance, the Decider is somebody who hasâ the potential to call dirty tricks toward the finish of a venture. So Jake and Co. ventured to such an extreme as to get composed affirmation that their undertaking would deliver on schedule: In one run, the CEO send the plan chief an email that read, I therefore award all of you dynamic expert for this undertaking. Silly? Indeed. Successful? Totally. This official force move included colossal lucidity While the procedure that Seth follows and the extraordinary structure runs that Jake and his group run are drastically unique, they make them thing in like manner: Getâ approval, at that point work. Boat on schedule, inevitably. Issue #4. Your Team Isnt Focused On The Projects That Produce Repeatable, Measurable Results What sucks at this moment: You have such a large number of things you could do, you have no clue about how to organize them. To finish it off, you have objectives like selling more-however you have no clue about what explicit activities are delivering the best outcomes and which ones you should quit doing. The startup arrangement: Concentrateâ 100%

March For Our Lives Versus Trumps America - Free Essay Example

March For Our Lives was founded in a living room and by teenagers coping with the trauma of a mass shooting. They created a movement to literally fight for young peoples lives by bringing them together and preaching the importance of voting. After dealing with tragedy, most people take their grief and deal with it privately. Opponents of the movement say the teenagers behind it politicized their situation and are the pawns of leftists and democrats, however, what people like Emma Gonzalez, Jackie Corin, David Hogg and Cameron Kasky have done was get the people politics affects the most, young people, ready and excited to vote. The young minds behind the movement were not the ones who politically publicized it; the adults who disagree with them fall guilty of doing so. In Washington, there were two protests: a protest of the lack of gun laws and a protest of that protest. Two Trump supporters, Eric Ciabottonia and John Bolduc, spoke to CNN about their opinions. According to Bolduc, Memorials are OK. Its when you start to militarize and politicize a tragedy thats when I start to have a problem. (CNN) Interestingly, the party those specific young adults follow created the politicization of Marjory Stoneman Douglas event and the march itself. The teens have been constant victims of manipulation of video: Emma Gonzalez was accused of ripping the Constitution and the video looked believable to anyone who wanted to dislike her. In reality, she was tearing apart a target made out of paper. David Hogg has been accused of being a crisis actor, someone who acts as a real victim during a tragedy, but only to prove himself as a Stoneman Douglas Eagle and not a crisis actor from California. All of the teens behind the movement are ostracized on social media fo r their age, gender or both. With these fallacies being spread, many Conservatives believed them. These lies comprised of hate are what the media speaks on. Yes, the march was covered heavily. So was the Right Wing wave of false truths about teenagers and their movement. The immature adults who politicized the march were the ones who created the supposed Liberal agenda that the young activists were pawns of. During the teens first event after the march called Road to Change, a country wide road tour where the leaders of March Four Our Lives visited different states and helped register people young and old to vote in the midterms. While in Texas, a place where public carrying of a gun is legal, the young adults registered people of all ages eighteen and older. As a group of protesters arrived, they knew that a conversation was going to be needed. Matt Deitsch explained that David Hogg, a member of MFOL and the topic of slander for this specific conservative man, was able to explain that he wasnt anti-gun, his family waslaw enforcement agents, gun owners and registered Republicans, and added that he didnt want to take away the mans guns (aplus). This was not covered by many media outlets that can be easily and quickly accessed. Any positive conversation held between opposing viewpoints, in this case Liberal and Conservative, is not entertaining nor captivating so news channels like Fox wil l not air those stories. Instead of airing the truthful, encouraging and kind stories about March For Our Lives or the brains behind it, they give airtime to people like Tomi Lahren. Lahren is a right wing Conservative who commentates on current political news. Unfortunately for the kids who speak up about the need for new gun laws, Tomi Lahrens voice echos over theirs. But unfortunately for Tomi, she unknowingly proved that when some Conservatives dont have an argument against stricter or newer gun laws and restrictions they start accusing the Left of unrelated things in order to call their hate as fact. In a Right Wing Watch News segment, Lahren said They arent interested in a few more laws! Theyre interested in eliminating the Second Amendment all together. Thats the real goal and even that would solve nothing (youtube.com). Previously stated, David Hogg expressed that their plans were not to take away the second amendment nor guns. The media, specifically Fox News, needs viewers. People are not going to watch two opponents sharing values and shaking hands. They want to watch someone or even multiple people arguing their side and using hand gestures, a loud voice and a tone that makes one sound professional. A simple Google search would prove all of Tomi Lahrens claims to be incorrect and blatant lies. All she expressed on camera was her partys fears. The right wing Conservatives do not want their guns to be taken out of their possession and they want the Second Amendment to stay in place because thats their whole argument. The fallacies and false knowledge spoken by a woman dressed in an American flag hoodie were the ones in the Liberal agenda that the children of Marjory Stoneman Douglas were accused of spreading. The irony is that the March For Our Lives founders never once said they wanted to deprive people of the right to protect themselves nor did they say that they planned on removing the Second Amendment. Because Fox News gives Tomi Lahren an outlet larger than the Eagles, she is able to reach a wider demographic. Shes on a network that anyone with a television can watch. The March For Our Lives founders have had some interviews, but not like Tomi or people like her. They have social media which helps them reach out to a younger demographic, but arent always the ones who ha ve the legal ability to cast a vote. The media failed the youth as it puts the children of Stoneman Douglas in a bad light and gave leeway to a spiteful, hateful and simply incorrect woman to spread her message of grievance about the same kids the media ignored. The agenda the young adults are accused of spreading was created by the media and for the media, not by the victims of it. The event that occured on February 14, 2018 left an entire school divided. You were either a survivor or a victim. Seventeen innocent lives were uprooted from their homes and moved to graveyards. Those are the victims. The survivors were left with hurt, anger and trauma. What did they do with their emotions? They fought back against the cause of their schoolmates untimely death. Like Alex Jones did to the Newtown victims, many accused the Parkland shooting to be fake or a publicity stunt. This fueled the teens more because they had already lost their friends, they were not going to lose against bigotry. They were also said to be uneducated on what they believed because of their ages. Radio host Kevin McCullough stated Even though they have a little more than a junior high level of educationthe Leftist mediacontinue to use them to advance their socialist utopia ideas (usatoday.com). The young adults have proven themselves more mature and educated on the topic of gun and gun violence t han some politicians by being willing to have an open dialogue with them. Those same politicians literally closed their doors in their faces when they tried to speak with them. That was not a push from any Leftist group except their own. The founders of March For Our Lives were smart enough to take their anger and use it for a progressive movement, they are definitely smart enough to ignore people like McCullough or Lahren who simply are not aware of what is truly happening. A large reason the right wing has such a passionate belief about guns, whether or not they have the truth about them is out of question because clearly the facts have been misconstrued, is because of the NRA. The NRA stands for National Rifle Association. The NRA endorses politicians and gives them money to their campaign based on their stance on the Second Amendment. The money the NRA can put into an election could sway it in a different direction. during the 2016 election, the NRA and its affiliates spent a record of $54m to secure Republican control of the White House and Congress, including $30.3m to help elect Donald Trump (theguardian). Politicians, primarily Republicans, are commonly endorsed by the NRA. Those same politicians, along with the NRA as a whole, are the ones offering thoughts and prayers instead of action. That very sentence is what inspired the teens of Parkland to start March For Our Lives in the first place. They were sick of the cycle that the NRA has encourag ed for years: a mass shooting, thoughts and prayers, forgetting it ever happened, another mass shooting. The politicians who take the blood money happily are afraid of the NRA. They do not want to lose the trust of the powerful group of people, the promotion from the people nor do they want to lose their money. Without their money they have no campaign. During a CNN town hall, Marco Rubio, an acceptor of the NRAs donation to his campaign and Floridas Senator, was faced by Cameron Kasky who at the time was a junior in high school. This is about people who are for making a difference and people who are against it and prefer money. So, Senator Rubio, can you tell me right now that you will not accept a single donation from the NRA in the future? (CNN). As Rubio stammers his way through the question and tries his best to give as little of an answer as possible, he finally says people buy into my agenda ¦ (CNN). Marco Rubio confirmed he was afraid of the NRA by wording his answer to Cameron so it would leave the NRA out completely. With such a hold on the Republican party, the National Rifle Association adds fuel to the gun control fire by giving money to the people who are not morally just and are controlled by checks from the bank. Though they may not realize it, but the NRA and the politicians that take their money are against schoo l kids and their safety. If they are not willing to change unsafe laws, they are against childrens lives. Those same people are criticizing the left for supposedly using kids for their agenda, but why should they care? They seem to think that a piece of metal is more valuable than one of those propagandic childrens lives anyways. From February 14, 2018 until the current day, the Parkland teens have been under the microscope. Theyve been called bullies for ignoring or picking on the shooter before the massacre. Theyve been called liars by people who disagree with them. Theyve been accused of faking this whole shooting for sympathy and to boost the lefts chance of winning back the government. They have been personally attacked by adults about things going on in their personal lives. Theyve dealt with all of these things on top of the trauma of grief of losing schoolmates, friends and teachers. While being teenagers, the courageous youth of Florida has dealt with a tragedy no one should ever have to go through. The Liberal agenda the activists have been accused of spreading did not exist to the extent it has been portrayed to be before the kids rose up. Adults who have a different opinion and a weaker argument created this idea of a Liberal agenda that differs from everything March For Our Lives stands for. The blatant lies about their goals include but are not limited to: March For Our Lives taking guns away from all Americans, March For Our Lives banning all guns and March For Our Lives removing the Second Amendment. Instead of being afraid of children who some Republicans call uneducated, maybe politicians should open up their doors and their minds to new ideas and new voices. Generation Z is the generation of mass shootings. They have grown up practicing active shooter drills, but no one with any say in Congress will get anything done except put blame on others. The leaders of March For Our Lives are not Liberal pawns. They are setting an example for other young adults to speak up about things that matter. They are getting kids excited to vote. They are changing the next generation. Fight for your lives before its someone elses job. Emma Gonzalez

My Experience In My Life - 1153 Words

My life is a sailboat sailing through the sea. It is a sailboat because sometimes life can be an easy breeze and it feels like you have no worries and nothing else matters except the moment you are currently in. Although sometimes life can almost feel like you’re in the middle of a terrible storm in the ocean ; everything seems to be going wrong in every way. Once you finally get out of the storm, the sun starts peeking through the clouds; the waves become calm again and the cooling sea breeze hits your face ever so softly. When I had tried to pick up the ball; I stepped on the ball with my left ankle. A huge cloud had covered the sun ; my sail broke and huge wave of pain had come over my boat and I had lost all control; my boat had been capsized and was in need of immediate rescue. I had blocked everything out of my mind once I had a heard a loud pop which came from my ankle as soon as sat on my foot. At first, I thought it might’ve been just an air bubble like when you crack your knuckles, so I got up and I didn’t put any pressure on it. The Death Penalty Should Be Abolished Essay - 1634 Words

The only crime punishable by death in New Zealand is treason, the death penalty for murder and piracy having been abolished in 1961, but none the less there were no death sentences known given because of treason 1. Then on 26th December 1989 when a private members bill was pushed into effect, marking New Zealand as a country where no crimes warrants a death punishment 2. Over the years crimes that once would be given death penalty has increased so reintroducing the death penalty should be considered, benefits with this law back in practice include better results of deterrence, government funds re-invested in crime preventions instead of crime punishments and most of all through the death penalty law all criminals offending such level of crime will leave the community and government no worries of potential recidivism. Evidence of Evolution in Fossil Records and the Process of...

The fossil record can show evidence for evolution, by relative dating, and radioactive dating we can find evidence for evolution. Relative dating is the process of finding out the age of a fossil by comparing it to other fossils/rocks. This process helps us determine how old certain specific fossils are by comparing them to other fossils; comparing older ancestor fossils helps us see the physical evolutionary change as time goes on, index fossils are used to determine the age of the fossil. Radioactive dating is another way we can see evolutionary change, this process involves obtaining the fossil and burning a small piece of the fossil, and obtaining/collecting all of the heat/radiation that is emitted from that fossil which is collected by a radiation counter; then the carbon 14 or carbon 12 that is left in fossil will be used; this then helps determine the half life of the fossil, which eventually helps us find out how old the fossil really is. Both these different methods that sc ientists use to determine fossil age shows us/helps us compare and find the age out our ancestors. Shows us how old the fossils are, helps us compare fossil records and see the change that is present/occurs throughout time. Comparative anatomy is another example of evolution, homologous structures, and analogous structures are both examples of evolution. Duke Ellington free essay sample

Duke Longtime definitely stands in my mind as one of the more important and productive musicians of this century. One of the firstblack band leaders, and one of the most innovative, the Duke wrote music of all types and styles from solo jazz piano pieces to 16 piece pop songs to symphony orchestra pieces. His wide range of composing styles is seen in his collaborations with prominent performers, two of which are John Coloration and Frank Sinatra. He was born in 1899 in Washington, D. C. , and came to Harlem In 1922.HIS composing Tyler at the time contrasted deeply with that of two of his contemporaries, Fletcher Henderson and Don Redden. While they were developing the stereotypical big band style of Brass vs.. Winds vs. . Rhythm, the Duke attempted to blend and mix the three sections and help them to work together as much as possible to speak to the masses. He also tried to convey too two most prominent emotions of the young black man In the early 20th century Harlem, known as oddly and hallway. Duke Ellington composed over 1,000 compositions right up until the day he died, May 24, 1974. Although Ellington was known as a huge figure in Jazz, his music spanned beyond the Jazz genre; it stretched into blues, gospel, popular, classical and film scores. Through his efforts and achievements, he has made Jazz more accepted as an art form and genre. Ellington had received 12 Grammy awards from 1959 to 2000. These awards were granted in the categories of Jazz, Big Band and composing; three of the awards were posthumous. Ellington has several famous quotes such as, â€Å"There is nothing to keeping a band together. You simply have to have a gimmick, and the gimmick I use is to pay them money! â€Å"; â€Å"If it sounds good and feels good, then it IS good! † and His autobiography, â€Å"Music is My Mistress† describes â€Å"the Duke’s â€Å" life in music. He ate, drank, walked and talked music. His music is known all over the world and when you think about Jazz and Big Band music greats, you would definitely think of Ellington. Duke Ellington has several memorials in New York, where lived for many years in a town house on the corner of Manhattan’s Riverside Drive and 106th Street ; in Washington D. C. , his birthplace and Los Angeles, California. Starting with Washington, D. C. , In 1974, the Calvert Street Bridge was renamed Duke Ellington Bridge; in 1989, a bronze plaque was attached to the newly named Duke Ellington Building at 2121 Ward Place and a mural by Aniekan Udofia was placed above his name; In 2010, the triangular park, across the street from Duke Ellingtons birth site, at the intersection of New Hampshire and M Streets, NW was named, Duke Ellington Park. In New York, West 106th Street was officially renamed Duke Ellington Boulevard. A large memorial to Ellington, created by sculptor Robert Graham, was dedicated in 1997 in New Yorks Central Park, near Fifth Avenue and 110th Street, an intersection named Duke Ellington Circle. A nationally renowned annual competition called â€Å"The Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Band Competition and Festival† started in 1996 at â€Å"Jazz at Lincoln Center† recognizes prestigious high school bands. In Los Angeles, California, a statue of Ellington at a piano is featured at the entrance to UCLAs Schoenberg Hall. It was here that Duke Ellington arrived very late to a free concert due to a mix-up of venues. To make up for this mistake, Duke Ellington and his band played a four hour concert at Duke Hall. This ended up being the first-ever jazz performance in a concert venue. Duke Ellington was one of only four other Jazz musicians to appear on the cover of â€Å"Time Magazine†. He was also the only African American to appear by himself on a circulating US coin. He have been recognized by historians as being the first African American musician who created a significant Hollywood film score comprising of non-diegetic music. His works have been inducted into the â€Å"Grammy Hall of Fame† and many tributes were made in his honor. In 1954, Dave Brubeck dedicated â€Å"the Duke† which became a standard for other musicians. Moving Forward and Finding Success Essay Example For Students

Moving Forward and Finding Success Essay The rain is pouring. It is soaking into my thin soles of the sneakers I found on the side of the road. The sloshing continues with every step I take. Right then, I wish for rain boots. I didn’t used to be this way I swear. I used to be able to provide for my children. I used to be a good father and husband, full of hope and happiness. Even though Roosevelt just passed the Wagner National Labor Relations Act (Fact sheet), union authority doesn’t necessarily solve my problems. Our only real concern throughout the day is what we are going to eat to stay alive. Let me backtrack. I just graduated with my law degree and was looking for a place to work. After searching long and hard, Goodwin Procter served me good. Man, I had it made, a job and a sexy degree not to mention I was rolling in dough. And then all I needed was a girl, I found her. Marie, boy she’s a looker. Impressed with my college degree her other boyfriends never had, it was love at first sight. This was during the same time when the first flight to the North Pole just happened. Floyd Bennett and Richard Byrd got the damn medal of honor alright. Two seconds later and before I knew it, Marie was pregnant with our second child. A blessing in disguise was what that was. Each year our babies grew we’d donate all their old clothes and toys, you know to give back. Now, it seems that we’re the charity But I am still not finished. All my buddies at the firm kept talking big about their investments in the NYSE so I gave it a go. Eventually, my investments tripled and I became an even richer man. I can’t believe that was just 5 years ago. But as you already know, something happened and I lost everything. Suddenly, by the end of October 1929, it crashed. First the stock market, then my life. My investments were gone and I soon got a call a few months later telling me Goodwin Procter went under. Apparently, it managed a bank that failed and that was it, I was a fritz. Now, time goes by all too slow and ignoring the piles of eviction notices have become a daily routine (Cinderella Man). A couple months ago, before the Wagner National Labor Relations Act was passed, the president signed another legislation to help more people get jobs by putting them to work on highways and bridges, the Works Progress Administration. This was when I decided to stop moping around. For the last few years my brother and I went to the dock early morning when we heard about a job. We would wake up at 5 oclock and walk to the docks gate’s, waiting for what it seemed like hours. Finally, the boss would step out and begin his picks. Now, I will not lie, I am a lawyer not a wrestler. With my skinny legs and measle muscles my chances were already slim, it runs in our genes ok? Not to mention the 1000 other men we were competing with, you can already guess we never were chosen. My brother and I knew there must have been something else we could do other than manual labor. Finally my brother became useful, instead of just eating our food and sleeping in our beds. His suggestion changed our lives. I am a lawyer, I am intellectual man, much more than those beasts fighting like dogs at the docks. I decided to use my powers for good and take a leadership position. No one else knows the legalities of this depression except for me it appears. My brother became a marketer and I became an activist fighting against our government. Who cares that we are putting a few people to work like slaves for our infrastructure, what about the rest of us? .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .postImageUrl , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:hover , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:visited , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:active { border:0!important; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:active , .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47 .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u2a33b898d84b79717491b7df570b6c47:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Grapes of wrath in times of de EssayWe are barely getting by, and by we I mean everyone. As a team, we rally all day into the dark night. I write speeches and convince people to rally with me and he makes posters and flyers, attracting the helpless to join for a common cause. Now the helpless don’t have to feel helpless anymore. I have learned to accept that in order to keep going, you gotta take things into your own hands (Ford). But I’m proud of how far we’ve come I mean we have done very well and receive great donations. I never thought people would appreciate those opposing government order, but hey, after all there isn’t much real order her e. It’s hard though. The hardest part is keeping my family sane so my brother and I always think of new ideas to help ourselves through this extremely difficult time. Using my incredible convincing skills that were once useful at the firm, I worked my magic instead on the shop keepers. Believe it or not it’s not too hard to convince them you deserve this food. I tell them I have a penny even though I might have 10 and no one questions it. Probably because of my perfected poker face. Hopping from store to store, that’s how we get our groceries. Thankfully it’s worked so far. My bartering skills also came in handy when we’d meet people off the streets. One time a guy named Lou, I’ll never forget, told us he had a stew for 6 but he needed a stove to warm it with. Nicest guy I’ve ever met. I might’ve took advantage but we have to fight to survive in this world. He said, â€Å"help me out†, so I convinced him that cooking in my kitchen and sharing his stew would be beneficial to him since he wouldn’t be able to eat at all without the stove (Waiting For Nothing). Smart huh? A way to consume and provide (Zinn). Despite our methods to help ourselves and others, I struggle internally with myself all the time. I am a father and a husband. Though I prayed to God in thanks for my beautiful family years ago, it has become less of a miracle and more of a way to embarrass myself. I don’t care that my brother lives with me, I am still the man of the house. But everyday I feel less and less of a man and it undermines my confidence, for some reason I take it so personally and I don’t want to. When I see the kids hungry or hear Marie crying softly in the bathroom when she thinks I’m not around it makes me feel like a bucket of manure. Times are cruel and it has made me cruel whether I want to be or not. Sometimes, when I don’t feel like I have done enough I get angry. Sometimes I’ll throw things or punch a wall and I’m not even a violent person. This habit of anger management occurs so often, my family knows when its coming and they know when to stay away (American Century). It kills me not being able to provide for my family anymore like I used to and a lot of the times I have no clue how to handle it. Right now, it’s hard to stay hopeful and positive but I have to keep trying for the people I love. I know I am an educated man so I hope my skills have more to offer than ditch digging and bridge building. I will continue to use my experience in school to better myself. I would also like to learn how to speak about my feelings to my wife and learn how to deal with them instead of getting angry. I will continue to love my family with every piece of my heart and do everything I can to keep them healthy. I won’t give up and I will advance in convincing my fellow Americans to stand up for justice. I will do whatever it takes to get my old life back, and those rain boots.

King Lear - Good Vs. Evil Essays - Films, King Lear, Philosophy

King Lear - Good vs. Evil In the King Lear play, Shakespeare creates many conditions in which humans live in the world. The main characters in the play are used to portray Shakespeare's ideas. One of these ideas which Shakespeare is trying to portray is evil between the characters and in the world which are emphasized throughout the play. The evil, created by humans, is outweighed by good in the world of King Lear. Evil was created by humans who decided to do wrong to others. Duke of Albany, said that all evil people will be justly punished (ACT V, iii, 303). Albany indicated that it is the people who caused evil and people decided to do evil, not gods. Lear believes that since Edgar is out on the heath he must have given everything to his daughters as well (ACT III, iv, 62ff). Since he believes that Edgar gave everything to evil Lear must believe that people are the cause of evil. It were Lear's daughters who decided to do wrong to Lear and it was Lear's fault in giving away all of his land. Si ughters are the humans in the play, it is the humans who caused the evil and Lear believes that humans were the ones who created evil. Edgar, is another character in the play who believes that evil is caused by humans and not the gods. Edgar said, "The gods are just, and of our peasant vices make instruments to plague us" (ACT V, iii, 169). Edgar clearly says that the gods are right and it is the people who are responsible for promoting evil in the world. It is us who make the instruments necessary for evil to spread and plague the world. In the world of King Lear many characters believe evil was caused by the people and not by the gods. Even though evil was created by humans good will always exist. After King Lear was captured he showed that even if evil exists, good will always be present. Lear speaks about love with Cordelia in the prison cell and how they will still have each other despite of the evil around them (ACT V, iii, 8). On another occasion Lear also says that despite all the evil in the world the raw nature, which is good, is still unharmed (ACT IV, iv, 90-92). Lear discovers nature's beauty by playing with the mice and listening to the signing birds. While all the evil is at its peak and everything seems to be lost, the raw nature in the play is unharmed. The good exists even while the evil dominates the world. Good will not only exist if evil dominates, good will also outweigh evil eventually. The war which was lost by Cordelia and Lear, the good side, showed evil win (ACT V, ii). However, good over powered it after the war by Duke of Albany. The good in the play first was diminished to almost nothing but in the end more good was able to defeat evil in the play. When the two sisters began fighting between each other evil began fighting against evil (ACT V, i and iii). Eventually, because of that fighting between evil, good was able to over power evil. When the evil seemed strong and good almost non-existent, evil managed to fight itself and give good a chance to get stronger. At the end of the play evil was completely defeated and good once again dominated the world in the play. Although evil will always be present and people will be the reason why it exists, good will always outweigh evil. Through the characters, Shakespeare is able to portray how evil and man compose in the world. The evil will always exist but good will always win and dominate in the world of King Lear.
